Urban Retreat
Check into the Royal Hawaiian, the pink palazzo-style icon on Waikiki Beach which reopened this year after a $100 million-plus overhaul, with a brand-new pool and an updated historic wing. Save one evening for dinner at the grand Hanohano Room at the Sheraton Waikiki—the 30-story ride in a private glass elevator is the perfect occasion to steal a kiss. Once you’ve arrived, settle into a table with views of Diamond Head and the Waikiki surf breaks to the east and Honolulu’s city lights and the Koolau Range to the west. Book a table for six o’clock on the west side of the restaurant for the best sunset views in the winter months. Don’t miss a stop at Garakuta-Do, a vast treasure trove of Japanese antiques, from lacquered 19th-century chests to small combs.
